older luthier/violin maker's thickness gauge or caliper. this was probably used for the thicknessing of violin tops and backs that were carved by the luthier, although it could have arguably been used for other thickness measuring. in the old days luthiers made their own tools (it was part of their apprenticeship) but this one is different, in that it's manufactured and marked woburn mach co., woburn mass u.s.a. the gauge is in excellent condition and can be used or displayed. has a 5 3/4" openings and it's approx. 11" long, making it a bit larger than the others i have sold. i have already sold 4 from my collection and this is the last one for sale. really beautiful and unusual tool.
check out my other old tool auctions, plus there will be more old luthier tools that will be listed.
international sales will be considered but you must contact me first.
